Welcome! I am glad you are joining me today as we connect with God through the scriptures.

As we begin day 4 on this journey building Habits of Hope, we will connect with God with confidence that we are being blessed and being a blessing by spending time today with Him.

Let’s do a quick check-in, how are you feeling. Is your body holding any tension? Sometimes our bodies can reflect things that are stressing us or the tension in our bodies can distract us. There are many techniques to let go of the tension our bodies can hold. One simple way to discover and relax the tenuous muscles is to simply go from head to toes, flexing each muscle for a few seconds and then relaxing it. Starting with your forehead, eyes, cheeks, neck… all the way to your toes. As you do this you can recognize the relaxed feeling and stay relaxed for the next few minutes of attending to our relationship with God through scripture. As you begin you can pray something like, “God help me relax, knowing I am in the palm of your hand. Amen.” If you feel any tension coming back, just flex that area again, hold it for a few seconds, and then relax it.

Remember that today you’ll do something that will help you rest in the covenant relationship between you and God that nothing can destroy. You can rest firmly in His love!

You know the format now:
Listen
Pray
Reflect
Contemplate
Respond

Let’s get started with about 20 seconds of taking deep breaths. As you begin breathing, let your thoughts focus on spending these next 4 or 5 minutes with God.

Breath –

Take one more breath and if you are able, close your eyes as you exhale to help you focus.

Listen
Today I will read Deuteronomy 31:8
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

What word or phrase is connecting with you?

Say it out loud. Embrace it.

Pray
Now we will say a short focusing prayer and pause for about 20 seconds as we open ourselves to God, pray with me, “God open me to your presence. Amen.”

Open yourself to God (20 seconds) –

Reflect
Listen to the scripture again with anticipation of going deeper. After the reading there will be a little silence providing space for you to just be with God.

Deuteronomy 31:8
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Silence for you and God –

Contemplate
As we contemplate what God might be communicating through that word or phrase we will pray a short prayer and then be silent focusing on God for about 30 seconds. Let’s pray together, “God please be present in my thoughts and my heart. Amen.”

Let’s pause and just be with God.

Now, open your heart to God and share what you feel. Don’t seek an answer or task, just share with God how you’re feeling. As you share with God, I am going to pause for a moment to provide space.

Pause 30 seconds –

Respond
Do you feel you are done or is God prompting you to respond? If you are done, close by praying, “God, thank you for this time, Amen.”

If you feel God asking you to respond, pray, “God guide me, here are my thoughts, help me to respond the way You are asking, Amen.”

Whenever you’re ready open your eyes. Notice how you are feeling.

May God bless you!

As you continue to deepen your relationship with God, you will notice positive changes in you and all of your relationships! One more day!

See you in session 5.
