Grief to Glory

May 2, 2021 - Bible Text:

Description

Luke 24:30-35

Summary

This week we finish out the story of Jesus' appearance to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus on the day of His resurrection. Week 1 we focussed on how our emotions, culture, and sin can create distortions in our beliefs that could blind us from the Truth of God. Last week, we looked at the steps we take in our spiritual journeys and building or rebuilding them might require small, but consistent steps to connect with God.

This week we are looking at how we can go from grief to glory. We can get deceived (see Genesis 2-3). It's so easy to do: who do we believe, what do we believe. We are blasted with messages and advertisements all day. If we get deceived or allow the deception to get in, it will cause grief and sometimes even our demise, but there is Good News! The Holy Spirit dwells inside believers of Christ and the Holy Spirit can open our eyes to the Truth of God and help us to begin to experience the blessing of God in our lives.

Action Steps

  1. Do something this week to get to know a neighbor who lives on your street that you really don't know well.
  2. Take time in prayer this week and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the things that might be causing you to be blind to God's Will in your life. Where might you be deceived or deceiving yourself?
  3. Take the steps to begin to confess and ask God to show you how to make it right (penitence).

Discussion Starters

  1. What are some different ways you could get to know your neighbor/s?
  2. How could you help someone who you knew needed help, but they weren't able to see they needed help?
