Psalm 124

March 17, 2019 - Bible Text:

Description

The second sermon in our series; "Psalms of Ascent".

This week's scripture: Psalm 124

I need somebody (Help)
not just anybody (Help)
you know I need someone (Help)

So much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
(Now) but now these days are gone I'm not so self-assured
Now I find I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciated you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?

Lyrics ring a bell... or do you need some HELP?

We all need some help, but where can we find help in times of trouble? Look to God!

The Bible shows us over and over again how God can be our help, refuge, strength! Here are some examples:

Isaiah 43: 1-3
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord you God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Luke 12:25-26
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Philippians 4:6
Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
