Resurrection

Description

The third sermon in our series; "Why Jesus?"

This week's scripture: Mark 8:31-38

Resurrection is the act of raising someone from the dead. For Christians, this is the great hope of life after death. Jesus Christ is the only one who successfully predicted His own resurrection and was able to come back from the dead. Why is this important? What does it mean for us? How does it matter to us as we live our lives today in the present?

The resurrection of Jesus is the most important event to happen in the history of humanity. It is the good news. While Jesus taught at amazing depths; while He performed incredible miracles; while He forgave peoples sins; while even the demons recognized Him as the Son of God; while He even raised others from the dead; the critical moment in His short life here on earth was His resurrection. This is the most astounding thing because it shows God's love for us is not just temporal, but eternal. God's love for you and me goes beyond this life and never ends. It can be a powerful motivator for sacrificial living, giving assurance that even if we sacrifice ourselves for someone else life does not end.

God's love shown in the resurrection of Jesus also gives us hope. A hope that someone has gone before us and promises to bring us to life beyond. In the resurrection, we see the ultimate show of God's eternal love for us and the hope of a life beyond this life where there is no more suffering, disease, or want.

We can be living embodiments of this love and hope without fear. We can meet any obstacle, suffering, pain, issue, and death with confidence that nothing can separate us from God's promise shown in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
