Description

Luke 24:25-29

Last week we read about two people walking to Emmaus who encountered another, who began to walk with them. They were followers of Jesus and were distraught because they had hoped he was the Messiah. What did they think Messiah meant? We found out a little last week about what they thought happened and what they thought the scriptures proclaimed. Have you ever believed something that was skewed? This week we see the other man (Jesus, but they still don't recognize Him) challenge their thinking about scripture and the events that took place in Jerusalem. Scripture is a blessing. Scripture is clear. Scripture is true. Scripture is our road map to the destination.

What's your destination? What are the steps necessary to take for you to get where God wants you? Are you willing to invite Him in and to stay with you?

Action steps

  1. Download the Bible app, buy a study Bible.
  2. When your alarm goes off to pray, try taking an extra 15 minutes to read the Bible.
    1. If you haven't set your alarm on your phone do it now for a quiet time in your day as a reminder to pray for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Read and study the Bible for 15 minutes a day. Start at the beginning of the New Testament, in Matthew.

Discussion Starters

  1. What is the first thing you typically do after you wake up? Break down the routine.
  2. What is a goal you might have or a New Years Resolution you've made?
  3. When was a time you started something new? What caused it and what were the steps you took to change? Bonus: Why do you think Jesus kept them from recognizing Him? Do you think that you might be held back from recognizing the fullness of Jesus because of some of your beliefs?
